Thursday Tapestry: Discomfort, Reinvention, and Mind Control

When I first started running (at the age of 49!) one of the best pieces of advice I received was to simply accept that it's going to be uncomfortable. I've since come to appreciate that the obstacles that appear to be blocking us from our goals can in fact be conquered if we learn to embrace the process and acknowledge that there are no silver bullets. As I'm just ten weeks from attempting my third full marathon, this month's Tapestry is dedicated to discomfort. We can do this!
Feeling warm?
I've just returned from Geneva where I had the opportunity to participate in the Transformational Board Director Conference on Mobilizing Climate Leadership as one of three delegates from Singapore. Convened by the World Economic Forum and Climate Governance Initiative, one of the sessions that hit hard was delivered by Professor Anders Levermann. I wanted to share this video (which approximates the session I attended) where he talks about climate change and weather extremes. Nobody ever said this was going to be easy.
Lessons from Grey's Anatomy
In her recent Commencement speech at Dartmouth, award-winning actress Sandra Oh didn't talk about overnight success. She talked about discomfort - the kind that stretches you quietly and reshapes you deeply. Drawing from her decade on Grey's Anatomy, she shared how navigating creative tension helped her grow without losing herself. What's the discomfort you've been managing quietly - and what might it be calling you toward next?
Reinvention by Design
Discomfort, it turns out, often signals readiness - not failure. it's no longer about lateral moves - it's about transformation. Reinvention isn't just a nice-to-have - it's imperative. Read about why I launched the Remarkable Reinventors Community 5 years ago and our recent Designing Your Life workshop. If you had to start over tomorrow, which skills would you bet on first?
Believe in Yourself… and Make Others Believe Too

Turns out, believing in yourself is all about mind control!
Whether you're stretching into discomfort, navigating reinvention, or simply trying to feel a little more like yourself each day - know this: growth doesn't always shout. Sometimes, it whispers.
And sometimes, that whisper is worth listening to.
