The future of work is here, and it doesn’t want a full-time contract.  For experienced (some would say, mid-career) professionals, the traditional playbook is looking increasingly obsolete. Three reads this month unpack this new reality: why top professionals are choosing freedom over the corner office, the questions to ask before taking the plunge, and the very tool we're using to keep pace may be dulling our edge. Let’s dive right in!

We Want the Work, But Not the Job

The days of climbing a single corporate ladder are fading. Lynda Gratton's latest from London Business School upends the old assumption that freelancing is a fallback. Today’s most experienced freelancers are choosing project work for autonomy, agency, and the freedom to shape their own career trajectory. In Gratton's words, everyone now needs a freelance mindset. Read it here.

Before You Go Fractional, Pause

Dorie Clark and Joy Batra tackle the other side in HBR: With AI-driven layoff anxiety rising even at senior levels, fractional work looks like a strategic hedge - but it's a business model shift, not just a career pivot. Check out the five questions leaders should ask themselves before making the leap.

Your Brain on AI: The Hidden Cost

Now, the plot twist. We love tools that save us time, but at what cost to our judgment? Daniel Pink flagged a fascinating study that should give every knowledge worker pause: participants who relied on AI for writing showed the weakest neural connectivity and the lowest recall of what they'd just written. The researchers call it "cognitive debt". Read the research here.

The True Purpose of AI

A little reminder that AI was made to make our lives easier, to cut away the mundane and menial, allowing us time and resources to pursue our true passions!

That is a wrap! May your weeks ahead be filled with bold decisions and authentic connections.
