The ascent of artificial intelligence is reshaping industries, influencing geopolitics, and challenging long-held paradigms around progress, purpose, and the role of humanity itself. This month I've handpicked three thought-provoking resources that I hope you will find valuable. Ready to dive in?

From Laboratory to Hegemony

AI’s pervasiveness isn’t a possibility. It’s a foregone conclusion. In Technology and the Rise of Great Powers, read the book review Jeffrey Ding makes a clear-eyed argument: technology and geopolitics are inseparable. However, what determines a nation’s dominance - steam power, electricity - isn't just the invention, but its widespread adoption.

Will the Humanities Survive AI?

As AI systems become more fluent, faster, and frighteningly persuasive, what becomes of the humanities? What's still “ours” to do?  D. Graham Burnett who is a professor at Princeton makes a compelling case in The New Yorker:  the humanities don’t just survive - they matter more than ever.  AI can't ask the big, messy, meaningful questions. That's still our domain. This essay is deep - I recommend it highly.

Better Than “What’s Your Passion?”

Speaking of questions... Daniel Pink offers seven that are better than the age-old “What’s your passion?” when it comes to uncovering purpose. This video is well worth 9.5 minutes of your time.

Every once in a while… We deserve a break

Even the most dedicated professors will sprint for the ice cream truck when it rolls by!

P.S. Earlier this month, I was honored to receive the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation which is conferred to the top echelon of professional speakers globally who have demonstrated top-notch speaking ability and a track record of professionalism and success.

This year's APSS Convention was themed Amplifying Imagination: Unleashing the Power of Unlimited Human Imagination in the Age of AI. It was a reminder that while technology may redefine the rules, imagination still writes the story.
