Whirling Dervishes and Rumi Wisdom
On a trip to Istanbul earlier this month, I had the opportunity to experience a mesmerizing whirling dervish ceremony, which is a form of meditation introduced by the 13th century Sufi Muslim mystic and poet Rumi. One of the quotes in the exhibition area has stuck with me: "Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise so I'm changing myself." Why Wisdom Matters More in the Age of AI
I also stumbled upon this Fast Company article "Wisdom gains value as the price of intelligence drops," which really resonated with me - this is so TRUE! It delves into how, even as AI floods us with cheap, accessible intelligence, the real treasure - wisdom - remains rare and precious. As we navigate this data-drenched world, how can we make sure that wisdom doesn't get lost in the shuffle?
Decoding Cross-Cultural Dynamics
Is so-and-so being difficult, or is there something about his or her behaviour that is deeply-rooted in cultural norms? I mean, diversity is great but... can't we all just get along?! As interactions with colleagues, clients, and partners from around the world increase, the potential for dysfunction in the workplace has skyrocketed. Sometimes we aren't even AWARE there's been a misunderstanding! Even the notion of "wisdom" can be culturally loaded. I've been doing a lot more work with organisations that are keen to enhance team effectiveness and performance in cross-cultural settings and wrote about that here.
